Simon Langton 1XI v Canterbury Academy 1XI – Lemon Cup Final played at Kings Hill CC
A hot day and a flat deck saw Canterbury Academy win the toss and elect to bat.
Joe Goldbacher and Kent Academy player Tom Davis opened the bowling and Davis made the breakthrough bowling club teammate Bradley Goldsack for 14. Canterbury Academy rebuilt to 50/1 before Ben Rutherford, in his last game for the school, bowled a spell of 2 wickets for 14 runs to swing the game. Jack Doyle of Canterbury Academy held the innings together but fell to Wilf Dibiase for 41. Dibiase (4 wickets) and Elliot Fox (3 wickets) saw off the lower and middle order and Canterbury Academy collapsed to 136 all out (Harry Divers 20 not out).
Canterbury Academy possess a dangerous bowling attack with premier league player Taylor Chandler (Lordswood CC) taking the new ball. Leading run scorer Fox fell early bowled by Owen Harrison for 6 before Davis and Rutherford put on a partnership of 68. Rutherford was caught for a well made 31 leaving Davis and captain Alex Beck to see off the remaining 52 runs needed for victory. Davis finished with 46 not out and Beck scored the winning runs with a flurry of 6’s to finish 35 not out.
Canterbury Academy played excellently and it was great to see how far their cricket has come in the last few years, credit goes to their boys and to Phil Relf.
